What is Down and How is Quality Measured?

Down refers to the soft, fluffy layer beneath the waterproof feathers of ducks and geese. Its primary function in nature is insulation, helping birds retain body heat even in cold water. Unlike feather-filled bedding, down-filled products do not contain hard quill shafts, ensuring a smoother and softer feel. Geese from colder climates such as Hungary and Siberia are highly prized for their exceptional warmth, stemming from the geese's cold-climate environment and the traditional, ethical practices that ensure large, high-quality down clusters and high fill power. Our Premium Bellisimo line is made from only Hungarian White Down in 650 Fill and is our most luxurious pillow. Our Bella line is made from European white down in a 600 fill. Our Metro line is non-European white goose down in a 560 fill. Finally for those with special allergy needs or looking for a lower price point, our Mirage line is a down alternative made with vegan fiber instead of goose down.

To guarantee ethical sourcing, high-quality down is Responsible Down Standard (RDS) certified, meaning it comes from humanely treated ducks and geese. Due to the time and labor involved in collecting and processing down, it is generally more expensive than synthetic alternatives. However, its durability and longevity make it a worthwhile investment.
